JANESVILLE, Wis. (WKOW) -- Rock County Health reports that mosquitoes collected from Rock County have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV) . These are the first mosquitoes that have tested positive for West Nile virus in Rock County since mosquito surveillance began in early July.
Rock County says no human cases have been reported this year, but infections were detected in one person who became ill with WNV and in several mosquitoes in other parts of the state .
West Nile Virus spreads to humans and other animals through a mosquito bite and the mosquitos obtain the virus by feeding on infected birds.
