The Michigan State Police will host a hiring event Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Boys and Girls Club Teen Center in Benton Harbor.

The event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., will include the baseline fitness test and the entry-level law enforcement exam. Recruiters will also assist attendees with applications for MSP trooper and motor carrier officer positions.

Lt. DuWayne Robinson, public information officer for the Michigan State Police, said the agency has maintained steady enrollment in its recruit schools for the past four to five years, running two schools annually. He credited community outreach, marketing, and word-of-mouth for attracting applicants.

Candidates must be at least 21 years old before starting recruit school, have a clean driving record, and no felony convictions.
