The National Weather Service issued a report at 3:14 p.m. on Wednesday for strong thunderstorms until 4 p.m. for Orange and Putnam counties.
The storms are anticipated to bring marble-sized hail (0.5 inches) and wind gusts of up to 40 mph.
"At 3:12 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm near New Windsor, or near West Point, moving east at 20 mph," states the weather service. "Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is possible."
Locations impacted by the alert include Cold Spring, New Windsor, Fahnestock State Park, Firthcliffe, Vails Gate and Cornwall On Hudson.
