The National Weather Service released an updated severe thunderstorm warning at 6:58 p.m. on Wednesday in effect until 7:15 p.m. for Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Residents should prepare for wind gusts of up to 60 mph.
"At 6:58 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over the East Village, moving east at 25 mph," explains the weather service. "Expect damage to trees and power lines."
The weather service states, "For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways."
