There is probably some joke to be made about the Pirates’ current payroll being $50, and while that is funny, it isn’t the payroll former Pirates catcher Michael McKenry and pitcher Steven Brault took to the latest episode of the “Bucs’ Bounty” podcast to discuss.

The challenge before them and one they put to all of us was simple: Build the ultimate all-time Pirates lineup. That in and of itself is difficult enough, but there is a twist — each player on their little chart is designated a dollar figure, and the team has a salary cap of $50.

Ordinarily, I pass right over these kinds of things, but this one got me to thinking. McKenry is right when he is says this is much more difficult than you think it is. I mean, it would be easy if you could just compile all of the best players in team
