GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Bars are easy to spot in Downtown Greenville. Now, city leaders are considering changes that could make it easier for more to open.
Currently, as part of the Bar 2022 ordinance , bars can open within 500 ft. of another bar in the downtown area if they meet certain requirements, such as being no larger than 2,000 sq. ft.
“It’s not really enough square footage to accommodate any of these buildings that are downtown presently,” said City Councilman, Matt Scully. “It’s just a little too small.”
The City Council is talking about loosening that restriction, which would allow for larger bars to open downtown and would also open up the possibility of breweries currently operating downtown to begin selling liquor.
