COLUMBUS, Ohio — A group of children spent their summer gaining confidence and building skills in a program designed to support mothers in recovery.

SummerQuest is a 12-week long day camp for children ages 6 to 14 whose mothers are in Alvis’ Amethyst program. It’s designed for children to have somewhere safe to go over the summer while their mothers are in treatment.

The children took field trips and finished the summer camp Wednesday with a pop-up shop, allowing them to sell their creations to the public and show off skills they gained over the summer.

"It's just really helpful for the parents to be able to concentrate on their treatment," said Denise Robinson, president and CEO of Alvis.

The program's impact on the children was immediately visible to organizers.
