ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A New York State grant was given to the United Way of the Greater Capital Region on Wednesday. The $100,000 will go toward expanding Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

The program sends free books each month to kids from birth to age five. United Way officials said the new funding will give more children access to the importance of early literacy.

"It's been overwhelmingly successful in terms of the enrollment and the outreach," United Way of the Greater Capital Region Pres. and CEO Peter Gannon said. "All the programs that we offer here at United Way, nothing has caught fire quite like Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has, which to me, shows that families want this, need this, and we're happy to be the catalyst to make it happen."
