ROUTT COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — The Crosho fire in Routt County has grown to more than 1,700 acres, forcing some ranchers to move livestock and leave their homes.
The flames are burning near the edge of the Flat Tops Wilderness, but the impact is being felt far beyond the forest.
It's homes to active ranches, hay meadows and pasture land all now under threat.
“It’s not just forest and land where cattle may be grazing, but some of these areas are some productive lands, including hay meadows and some private pasture lands," said Todd Hagenbuch, county director for CSU Extension in Routt County. "So, getting animals out, of course, has been a big thrust. Of course, the people as well, to make sure people are safe as this fire grows.” • The Crosho Fire in Routt County. (Courtesy Kathryn Schl
