ALBIA, Iowa (KCRG) - The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim found in the aftermath of a fire in Albia’s town square .

On July 14, first responders were called to a building on Washington Street in Albia.

When crews arrived on scene, they located heavy black smoke coming from the roof of the building.

The building contained businesses on the lower floor and apartments on the upper floor. All building tenants were found except for one.

First responders worked to contain the fire for hours. The following day, crews discovered human remains.

The victim is being identified as 61-year-old Kelly Cummings of Albia.

According to police, Cummings died of natural causes prior to the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. Police believe the two incidents are unrelated
