KNOXVILLE, Tennessee — Halfway through the city of Knoxville's early voting period, some of the most competitive races have yet to draw significant turnout.
According to the Knox County Election Commission, 2,002 early votes have been cast so far as well as 472 absentee ballots in five Knoxville City Council races.
But the competitive races that are actually in play are showing slow turnout, figures show.
For example, according to figures from elections chief Chris Davis, 379 early votes have been cast in the District 1 primary. The area covers South Knoxville.
Four people are running, but only two can advance in this race. So votes cast now will determine who ends up on the final November general ballot.
