SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) - A Sumter church has released a statement following the arrest of its bus driver for allegedly sexually assaulting a member on the church bus.

Luke Stewart was arrested on Wednesday and charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The Sumter Police Department said the charges are linked to allegations that Stewart sexually assaulted a woman on two different occasions while on a church bus.

The victim also identified Stewart as the church’s bus driver.

Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church said in its statement that “our hearts are heavy for all who have been affected by this tragedy” and that it “does not tolerate abuse of any kind.”
