Chattanooga firefighters responded to a local automotive paint facility Thursday morning after receiving calls about a small hazardous material spill.

According to the Chattanooga Fire Department, nitric acid was spilled inside Nippon Paint Automotive Americas at 1801 Southern Street.

Employees evacuated the building as a precaution, but nobody was injured during or after the spill.

The CDC says exposure to the corrosive acid can result in severe burns, irritation, respiratory problems, and even death.

CFD Hazmat and Special Operations teams responded and mitigated the incident after what they call "a small chemical reaction."

We have reached out to the paint facility for comment.
