NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — The 50th Annual Corn Festival was ready to make history last weekend with Lorain County’s very first drone light show, complete with 100 dancing drones ready to paint the night sky. But it didn’t quite go as planned.

Instead of a picture-perfect display of choreographed shapes, many spectators found themselves puzzled – peering through tree branches and playing guessing games about the show overhead.

The problems started early. Attendees scrambled to find the QR code needed to access the show’s soundtrack. Then, just before the show began, a “rare technical glitch” grounded many of the drones. And when the rest took flight, they launched from an area out of view from where spectators had been told to gather, with trees blocking much of the display.
