CLEVELAND — The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in Huron County early Wednesday morning.
According to the NWS, an EF1 tornado came down in New London at approximately 2:04 a.m.
"The initial damage occurred at the New London Recreation Area near the small baseball field, where the storm blew over one of the bullpens," the NWS noted in its storm damage survey report. "The tornado then tracked northeast, snapping a large hardwood tree in Grove Street Cemetery, with maximum wind speeds estimated at 90 mph."
The EF1 tornado brought down several trees, which damaged homes in the area. One uprooted tree fell onto power lines, snapping three utility poles and blocking a roadway.
