A Haverhill man employed as a police officer in New Hampshire has been charged in federal court with receiving child sexual abuse material.

John Giarrusso, 49, a member of the Seabrook Police Department, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with one count of receipt of child pornography, according to the Office of the U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts. He was scheduled to appear in court in Boston at 2 p.m.

On Oct. 16 and 17, 2024, Giarrusso received video files depicting child sexual abuse on the social media app Kik, authorities say. The victims in the videos were approximately 5 to 11 years old.

Giarrusso was previously arrested and charged by the Essex County District Attorney’s Office in March. He was charged with possession of child pornography and distribution of graphic sexu
