EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) -- Thursday, the Deaconess Heart Hospital's "Heart-Saver" Program presented 50 AED devices that will be donated to local first responders, schools, churches, sports leagues and non-profits.

The volunteer-driven initiative has helped to place those life-saving devices in the Tri-State community for nearly a decade. Officials say having the devices in accessible locations helps to save lives.

“If somebody has a sudden cardiac event, seconds matter,” committee member Kristen Wagmeister said. “They need to be any place that people gather.”

Since the program first began in 2015 they have been able to present over 900 AED devices to organizations and first responders.
