PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Construction is underway on the second phase of the Lakefront Trail at Painesville Township Park, extending the popular lakeside path westward behind a newly built breakwall.

The project moves the trail closer to its long-term goal of linking the Hardy Road park to Fairport Harbor.

The work is also part of a broader redesign aimed at making the park more pedestrian-friendly and versatile.

In 2023, Lake Metroparks removed the drive in front of the Community Center and expanded parking behind the building. The changes added pedestrian walkways, lake-view seating areas, picnic spaces, patio sections, an open lawn for gatherings and a children’s playground.
