OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - A parade honoring traditional marriage is drawing controversy in the Ottumwa community.
This parade comes after the city council approved a proclamation honoring pride month in June.
This caused one community member to submit a proclamation to honor traditional marriage.
Some people in the community were opposed to the idea. And the city council has tabled that discussion for another meeting.
Supporters of the parade say it will celebrate the value of traditional marriage.
But opponents argue that this event sends a bad message to other forms of marriage.
For now the parade is the latest chapter in a larger conversation on how different communities are recognized.
