Caden Scarborough, the reigning Texas Rangers minor league pitcher of the month, continued a strong stretch of starts for the Hickory Crawdads. However, the Charleston RiverDogs matched Hickory through nine innings before scoring a walk-off run in the 10th for a 2-1 win Thursday night at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Ballpark.
The RiverDogs (58-50 overall, 23-19 second half) have won the last two in the series and now lead 2-1.
Scarborough posted another brilliant performance on Thursday night, facing one over the minimum through five no-hit innings. The lone batter to reach against Scarborough was Theo Gillen, who earned a walk to lead off the fourth. Otherwise, Scarborough struck out seven before leaving after 70 pitches (48 strikes).
