Erin has been upgraded to the first hurricane of the 2025 season in the Atlantic, according to the National Hurricane Center.

As of the 11 a.m. advisory, Erin was located about 460 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands and had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph with a minimum central pressure of 996 mb.
Hurricane Hunter flew into the storm and found sustained winds had increased to near 75 mph with higher gusts, the NHC said.
Steady to rapid strengthening is expected during the next two to three days, and Erin is forecast to become a major hurricane during the weekend.
The outer bands of Erin are expected to produce heavy rainfall through Sunday across the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
