LINCOLN, Neb. —

In a new report , the Domestic Abuse Death Review Team identified 72 deaths related to domestic abuse since July 2022.

The task force was created under the Nebraska Attorney General's Office in 2022. It released its first report last year.

Now, the task force is building data on victims and suspects and pinpointing contributing factors.

Of the 72 deaths researchers identified, 28 were in Douglas County, eight in Lancaster County, five in Sarpy County, and the rest were in 23 other counties.

A gun was used in nearly 40 cases, while the next closest weapon of violence was a knife.

According to the report, 57% of victims were women and 42% were men, and 87% of the suspects were men.
