Mount Clemens ― Demolition of a portion of the Macomb County jail will start this month as a multimillion project to build a new central intake center at the jail moves forward.
Just days before prep work for the demo begins, Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel, Sheriff Anthony Wickersham and other sheriff's office personnel played a game of 3-on-3 basketball on Friday outside the Maximum Security and D-Blocks buildings before they're torn down.
The demolition work is a milestone in Macomb County's approximately $240 million Central Intake and Assessment Center project, which is meant to improve how the county handles inmates with mental health and substance use issues. Construction started on the project last year.
