Deputies Confirm No Threat to School After Investigating Reports of Distant Gunfire

DADE CITY, Fla. – East Pasco Education Academy was briefly placed on a controlled campus status this afternoon after a report of what sounded like gunshots in the distance. The precautionary measure, which restricts movement around the school grounds, was enacted to ensure the safety of students and staff while authorities investigated the report.

Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded promptly and conducted a thorough search of the area surrounding the school.

Their investigation determined that the sounds were not a threat but were instead the result of recreational shooting on private property located some distance from the campus.
