A new tactic by first responders along the Jersey Shore is taking officers into the sky with new drone technology that could be lifesaving in beach and ocean safety.
The Ocean County Sheriff's Office told NBC10 they are now using drone technology to help assist crews during water rescues at the beach.

"In the recent weeks, we've had a large jump in after hours water rescues, mainly because of the dangerous rip currents along the Jersey Shore," Ocean County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Kevin Fennessy said.
These emergencies are what prompted the Sheriff's Office to deploy drone-equipped trucks during the past week which are now on standby in beach towns whenever lifeguards are off-duty.
