Friday afternoon, a truck carrying hog waste and other byproducts suffered a spill after taking a turn too hard.
Around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, a GTN truck hauling hog waste and other byproducts from Smithfield’s hog farms turned from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard onto Lisbon Street. The driver appeared to have taken the turn to fast and slammed on the brakes to attempt to correct his mistake. As a result, the hog waste was sent hurling down the side of the truck and onto segments of the road. Shortly after, police were called to the scene after reports came in about an agricultural spill. Police arrived on the scene to find the truck and its driver still on site.
