GILA BEND, AZ (AZFamily) — Interstate 8 in Gila Bend is back open Friday evening after flooding forced the freeway to close temporarily.
According to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), the interstate had been closed in both directions at the state Route 85 interchange from about 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
The Arizona Family First Alert Weather team reported that the Valley and other portions of the state are likely to see rain and thunderstorms on Friday night, before a dry weekend arrives.
Storms dropped between a quarter and a half inch of rain across the Phoenix area Thursday night into early Friday, with a few spots picking up more than an inch. Damages could be seen with downed trees in north Phoenix and the northeastern portion of the Valley.
