ELTINGVILLE, Staten Island (WABC) -- An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed during a police shooting involving two off-duty officers on Staten Island.

The deadly shooting happened just after 8 p.m. on Friday near William Avenue and Hylan Boulevard in Eltingville.

According to the NYPD, police responded to a 911 call after reports of a man with a gun behind Andrew's Diner on Hylan Boulevard. The suspect reportedly left the area of diner a short time later.

Officials say an off-duty officer walking outside on William Avenue encountered the suspect and noticed the gun. The officer then alerted another off-duty officer about the situation, and together they confronted the man.
