PORTLAND, Ore. — Three people were injured in a Northwest Portland apartment fire Sunday morning, including a firefighter who hurt his back while rescuing a resident, according to Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R).

Crews responded to a two-story apartment building over garages at Northwest 23rd and Overton Street just before 9 a.m. Firefighters reported heavy fire and gray smoke coming from a window on the second story with a person trapped inside.

Fire crews went quickly into offensive attack mode to aggressively attack the fire, according to a news release. Meanwhile, another crew raised a ladder to the second-story window to safely rescue the victim from their apartment.
