ARCHULETA COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - Two men are facing arson charges in connection with a wildfire that threatened homes and forced evacuations near Pagosa Springs.

The Oak Fire was called in as a structure fire on the afternoon of Aug. 10, and quickly began burning out of control, jumping to surrounding land and rapidly spreading. The Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office began issuing mandatory evacuations within a couple of hours, and Gov. Jared Polis verbally issued a disaster emergency that same day. His office stated that the fire had already “escalated rapidly” and exceeded what local and county fire crews could handle on their own.
