RICHLAND COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - Village of Butler Mayor Wesley Dingus faces numerous charges for allegedly running over a man wanted for violating parole.
Police officers from Bellville, located about five miles from Butler, are handling the investigation, “for transparency reasons.”
Bellville Police Chief Jon Fletcher said Mayor Wesley Dingus saw Anthony Ward in the passenger seat of a car on July 11.
Ward, 38, had been convicted of sexual battery and was wanted for violating parole.
Dingus allegedly followed the car while calling Butler Police Chief Eric Winbigler.
The driver of the car, Ward’s grandmother, pulled into a gas station at the same time as the chief and the mayor.
