LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - It’s back to school season across Mid-Michigan, and parents are making sure their kids have everything they need.
That means many parents are shopping earlier this year.
Two-thirds of back to school shoppers already bought at least a portion of their supplies by early July, according to a study by the National Retail Federation.
It signals a massive shift to early shopping ahead of the school year, with many parents citing concerns about tariffs and what prices could look like in a few months, if they waited.
Overall, the average American is actually expecting to spend less on school supplies and clothes this year. Families with students in elementary-high school plan to spend just $858.
