A man has died after an early morning shooting in New Haven on Monday, police said.

New Haven police said they responded to the area of Ferry and River streets around 4:45 a.m.

Police said they found a man lying on the sidewalk with several gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital and later died of his injuries.

The man has been identified as 40-year-old Dennis Atkinson, of New Haven.

Authorities are conducting a homicide investigation. No arrests have been made.

The police department said it appears an argument happened before the shooting, and the incident doesn't appear to be random.

The shooting is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
