A data center could be built on more than 300 acres on Stamey Farm Road in Statesville.

On Thursday, Compass Datacenters met with residents at the Statesville Civic Center to make a presentation to the community about a proposed data center. A data center is a building or group of buildings that houses computer systems, often used for data storage and other systems. Google, Apple, Facebook and Microsoft have data centers in North Carolina.

Compass Datacenters, the Dallas-based company behind the Statesville proposal, looks to build on 333 acres owned by the Stamey Land Company, which is connected to Stamey Farms.

The proposed location is just off the exit for Stamey Farm Road and is northeast of the Statesville Regional Airport.
