GLENDALE, Ky. — Electric vehicle battery production at the BlueOval SK plant in Glendale, Ky. is now underway.
The first ever BlueOval SK battery to be sold to customers came off the assembly line on Tuesday, according to officials.
Batteries from the plant will power the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning.
"We are proud to build batteries at our Kentucky 1 facility that will power next-generation electric vehicles," BlueOval SK CEO Michael Adams said in a news release. "The start of production is a significant milestone that strengthens in the electric vehicle battery market."
Gov. Andy Beshear said the milestone was four years in the making after Ford and SK On announced plans for the $5.8 million investment in September 2021. It's expected to create 5,000 jobs, with 1,450 already f
