DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado Bureau of Investigation reported that scammers are impersonating the bureau's Cyber Crimes Special Agents, in a press release on Tuesday afternoon.
The latest ruse of scammers comes in a similar form to one recently reported by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Denver, which said that scammers were posing as the Internet Complaint Center, known as IC3, to target victims.
The scammers who pose as special agents provide an "unlikely story" about detecting a cybercrime, and will ask the victim for their personal information, which often includes financial accounts and remote access to their computer, CBI reports.
The scammers will typically leave a callback number that is not associated with CBI.
