In announcing the creation of the city’s first Office of Health and Well-Being on Tuesday, Mayor Monroe Nichols made a point of recognizing the multitude of health services providers, insurers and nonprofits in Tulsa that are trying every day to improve health outcomes.

After all, the mayor pointed out, they are the ones doing the work.

“Today’s announcement is not that we think we’re so smart we thought about something people never thought about before,” Nichols said during a City Hall press conference. “But it’s saying we’re going to get in the game with you. That’s what today is about.”
