NEWBURYPORT — With tiny prizes and trinkets up for grabs, kids 12 and under had their noses buried in books this summer, amassing around 16,000 combined days of reading during the Newburyport Public Library’s Summer Reading Program.

“They were two days shy of 16,000 days. We do give the kids the ability to log retroactively, so I have a feeling we’ll break 16,000,” Allison Privitera, who runs children and teen services at the State Street library, said.
