JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) - Tuesday night, the family of 18-year-old Mia Sims spoke out about the man arrested in connection with her death.

Antonio Green was taken into custody in Fresno, California. He’s accused of shooting Sims on July 27, outside of a church in Jackson.

While the family is grateful the man accused of killing Mia has been arrested, it doesn’t make her loss any easier. Her death not only impacted the family but also the entire Jackson community.

“My first emotion was, ‘Thank you, Jesus,’ because even in a grim situation like this, God is faithful,” said Katrina Sims, Mia’s grandmother.

Mia had just graduated from Jackson High School and had dreams of going to Clark University in Georgia.

Dreams she sadly won’t get to make a reality.
