OLYMPIA, Wash. – Attorney General Nick Brown has joined a multistate comment letter to the U.S. Department of Education.
The effort seeks to prevent limits on schools' abilities to support students' mental health needs, according to a press release from the AG's office.
The letter addresses the department's proposed changes to its School-Based Mental Health Services Grant Program and Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration Grant Program.
These changes would further implement the department's decision to discontinue previously awarded grants.
Washington State filed a lawsuit over this decision earlier this year, which is still in court.
As of now, the Department of Education has not responded to the letter.
