LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The clouds peek into the valley, a brilliant white over the mountains. Before you know it, they're building into thunderheads as afternoon heat bakes the valley.

Hang on, Las Vegas … you're about to get a monsoon!

It's one familiar pattern, but monsoons show themselves in a variety of ways, some years on a daily march over the mountains, others in spectacular lightning storms that last for hours. And some years are like 2025.

"This one's been kind of a dud this year," 8 News Now chief meteorologist Tedd Florendo said.

But that could all change quickly, and Florendo said this weekend might be our best chance to get some rain, which has been in short supply this year. So far, just a little over 2 inches has fallen since Jan. 1. The valley typically gets around 4 inches
