Ann Greenville and her husband, Ed, walked up to the building at the southeast corner of the New York State Fair on Thursday looking a little confused.

“Is this still a restaurant?” she asked as she neared the building known for years as The Empire Room. “We come down every year from Oswego and we always liked it.”

It’s easy to see why they were unsure.

As of noon on Thursday, the second day of the fair, the building still had no signs, nothing indicating it was open or what it’s name is.

In a half dozen visits over the first day and a half of the fair, syracuse.com reporters never saw more than two customers in the place, and sometimes none.

“It’s a nice space, but I wish it looked more inviting now,” Greenville said as she and her husband turned away to find someplace else to eat
