Kanawha County Schools saw notable improvement in mathematics this year, with proficiency climbing from 34% to 39%, according to 2024-25 student assessment data released Aug. 13 by the West Virginia Department of Education. Reading remained the district’s strongest subject, while science lagged behind, with only 19% of students proficient — well below pre-pandemic levels.
