City of Hailey officials on Monday signed off on steep increases in development impact fees that could help bankroll a long-discussed fire station.

Hailey’s Development Impact Fee Advisory Committee on Monday endorsed a consultant’s proposal to raise impact fees on new housing and commercial projects, forwarding the new fee schedule to the City Council for approval.

If adopted by the council on Sept. 22, the higher rates could generate enough money to fully fund a $2.4 million fire station in the proposed Flying Hat Ranch East annexation or partially cover the $14 million price tag for a larger station within city limits, according to land-use economist Colin McAweeney.
