NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Months after the first detection of West Nile Virus was reported in Davidson County, officials with the Metro Public Health Department have confirmed the first human case.
According to a Friday press release, the individual lives in South Nashville and has no history of travel. Officials added that "the case coincides with a rise in West Nile Virus activity in mosquitoes across Nashville."
MPHD's Pest Management team traps and test mosquitoes throughout the summer season at sites across Davidson County to inform nearby residents when insects in the area test positive for the virus. Additionally, the team adds larvicide to ponds and water in the area near positive results, which helps kill mosquito larva and reduces future populations.
