COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WKBN) - Shoe stores pair customers with their 'soul' mate. A store in Columbiana has done that well for close to half a century.
Shoes are the main feature of Cobbler's Corner. Work boots, athletic shoes, dress shoes, Red Wings. But times have changed.
"We used to stock 10,000 pair of machines. We're down about 2,000 pair now, and it's still just very difficult," said Terry Thompson, owner of Cobbler's Corner. Cobbler's Corner has been a fixture for 49 years in Columbiana. The store will not reach its 50th anniversary celebration. Thompson has made the tough decision to close the store. There's just a lack of customers coming in for shoes. "They'd rather order three pair of shoes online, track them online, and send one back, than come to the shoe store," Thompson said.
