PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- The Peoria City Council is considering a measure that would create a 1% sales tax that would pertain to stores such as Target and Lowes within the Glen Hollow Shopping Center.

The measure would create the Glen Hollow Business Development District and business development plan. The owners of the property requested the measure to "redevelop existing properties, meet the needs of commercial retail tenants, and acquire vacant spaces," according to the council packet.

State law requires a public hearing before the council can approve such a measure. The agenda item for Tuesday night's meeting calls for the council to set a Sept. 23 public hearing, which would be held at City Hall.
