JACKSONVILLE, Ark. — Nearly a month after the city of Jacksonville announced it was shutting down Willow Bend Apartments, some tenants still living there have said that things have gotten even worse.

Raven Miller is one tenant who said her two years of living at Willow Bend have been bad from the start.

“Just really not a safe place for children,” Miller said. “Or humans, period.”

Kariyah Kirk said things weren’t always bad for her, but over the past year maintenance at Willow Bend has become practically nonexistent.

In addition, safety has become a big concern.

“My godbrother got shot out here [he's] 12 years old,” Kirk said. “That shouldn't have even went that far with kids outside playing. A man was shot out here, and the kids found his body on their way going to the bus stop.”
