CHESTER, S.C. (WBTV) - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement also known as ICE is increasing its training for new agents.
WBTV has found that several agencies across the Carolinas have agreements with ICE through a program that allows the agency to delegate state and local law enforcement officers for specific immigration functions.
Several law enforcement agencies in South Carolina have agreements through ICE’s 287(g) program.
The Chester County Sheriff’s Office has two agreements under the program. The first is a warrant service officer that allows ICE to authorize local law enforcement to serve and execute warrants.
The second is a Task Force Model that allows local law enforcement agencies to enforce limited immigration authority with ICE supervision.
