RIVERSIDE — One play can swing the momentum of a game.
In Friday night’s season opener, the King defense produced that play when Mark Cadena recorded a safety with 4:29 left in the third quarter against Roosevelt dual-threat quarterback Blake Nadler. King built on that moment, scoring 13 of the next 19 points for a thrilling 22-20 win.
Nadler had spent much of the night narrowly eluding King’s defensive players, and dropping him for a safety reinvigorated a stadium that had been looking for something to cheer for since quarterback Colton Zeen’s 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
The Wolves’ victory was their second straight in a series that dates to the school’s old Big VIII days.
